We’ve been running the bike workshop in the Brick Works for over 10 years. We’ve always aimed to provide a low cost service for local people – and we’ve relied on the generosity of local people to donate their pre-loved bikes to us. All the profits we’ve made have been paid over to The Brick (Queen’s Hall Action on Poverty) every year.
As we move to a different way of working we hope that the same people will be helping in the workshop – and that if you’ve been a customer in the past then you’ll get used to the workshop operating in a different way.
You won’t be able to drop your bike in and pick it up a few days later. Instead you’ll be able to attend one of our maintenance club sessions with your bike. We’ll look at the bike together and we’ll encourage you to do the work yourself – with help from a skilled mechanic. There will obviously be jobs where it might need an experienced hand – but we’ll always encourage people to do as much as they can themselves.
At the end of the session you’ll take your bike away. It might be completely sorted or it might need further work. If it needs parts or spares we’ll work out with you what’s needed and then you can bring your bike back to the next / later session for the work to be completed.
We’ll obviously ask you to cover the cost of parts that are used – but because it’s a maintenance club the work is being done by you (with a bit of help from us)
Our aim as always will be to keep bikes on the road at low cost – making sure they’re safe and enjoyable to ride.
