Training

In partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester we are pleased to be able to offer a series of Basic, Intermediate and On The Move training courses

Basic courses last about 2 hours and include:

  • What the parts of your bike are – and what they do
  • Things you should check before each ride
  • Simple adjustments – e.g.brakes and gears to make sure they work smoothly and safely
  • What tools you might need and how to use them
  • How to mend punctures
  • Cleaning and lubrication

This course costs £10 and is payable directly to TfGM at the time of booking. You can find details of the next one via this link: (next date to be confirmed)

Intermediate courses normally take place on a weekend and last about 6 hours – they cover lots more detail and include some hands on work:

  • Brake adjustment
  • Gear adjustment/indexing
  • Inspection/fitting of cables
  • Chains & Cassettes
  • Bottom bracket and headset inspection/adjustment
  • Recommendations for routine servicing
  • How to identify and correct out of true wheel

On The Move courses normally take place on a weekend and last around 3 hours. As part of the course we’ll head out for a ride so bring a bike, helmet, suitable clothing and footwear.

The course is focused upon repairing unforeseen mechanical mishaps while out on a ride or commuting. Most people can deal with and repair a puncture. What if it’s more complicated than that? How would you deal with –

  • A split or gashed tyre
  • Snapped gear cable
  • Broken chain
  • Bent or snapped mech hanger
  • Faulty derailluer
  • Free hub failure
  • Broken spoke or buckled wheel
  • etc etc.

This course costs £15 and is payable directly to TfGM at the time of booking. You can find details of the next one via this link: (next date to be confirmed)
